Reading Purity Results in Context
Purity is an analytical characteristic, not a complete description of product identity, quality or suitability. Meaningful interpretation requires a defined method and supporting context.
What a Purity Value Represents
A reported purity value describes the relative result produced by a particular analytical method under defined conditions.
Different methods may respond to different characteristics, so values should not be compared without understanding their analytical basis.
Identity and Purity Are Different
Identity testing addresses whether a material is consistent with the expected substance. Purity testing estimates the relative presence of the principal component within the method’s scope.
A high purity result alone does not establish identity or rule out every type of impurity.
Method Context
Interpretation depends on factors such as sample preparation, reference information, system suitability and the way results are calculated.
Supporting records should identify the method or method family and any relevant reporting limitations.
Reading Supporting Documentation
A useful analytical document identifies the product or sample, lot reference, test date, reported result and responsible laboratory.
Documents should be checked for scope, consistency and traceability. Their presence should not be treated as proof of claims they do not address.
